Τo TWIXTlab συμμετέχει στη Biennale Αρχιτεκτονικής της Βενετίας στο Ball Theatre, στο Γαλλικό περίπτερο της έκθεσης, το πενθήμερο 1-5 Αυγούστου, στο πλαίσιο των δράσεων “Radio Utopia – Nouvelles du Monde / News from the World”
Συγκεκριμένα, το TWIXTlab θα παρουσιάσει 4 ραδιοφωνικές παραγωγές (3 podcasts και μια ραδιοφωνική ιστορία), προϊόντα τριετούς ερευνητικής δουλειάς στο πλαίσιο του προγράμματος πολιτιστικής συνεργασίας B–Air: Art Infinity Radio, με τη συγχρηματοδότηση του προγράμματος «Δημιουργική Ευρώπη» της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης.
Πρόκειται για τα podcasts με τίτλο “Art from one sense to the other” (Η τέχνη μεταξύ των αισθήσεων), “Tangible sound” (Απτός ήχος) και “Critical reflections on sound as a multi-sensory experience” (Κριτικοί στοχασμοί πάνω στον ήχο ως πολύ–αισθητηριακή εμπειρία). Τα podcasts αυτά περιλαμβάνουν αποσπάσματα συζήτησης γύρω από το ζήτημα της αισθητηριακής μετάφρασης και του απτού ήχου, καθώς και έναν αναστοχασμό πάνω στην προσέγγιση του ήχου ως πολύ-αισθητηριακής εμπειρίας. Επίσης θα αναμεταδοθεί η 15λεπτη ραδιοφωνική ιστορία “Στον πλανήτη”, που δημιουργήθηκε με τη συνεργασία μαθητών, μαθητριών και εκπαιδευτικών του Ειδικού Γυμνασίου-Λυκείου Κωφών και Βαρήκοων Αργυρούπολης με την ομάδα συνεργατών του TWIXTlab.

Τα podcasts συμπληρώνονται μουσικά από αποσπάσματα συνθέσεων και ηχογραφήσεων που προέκυψαν από τα καλλιτεχνικά εργαστήρια: «Απτό Ραδιόφωνο – Τάξη στον Αέρα» (σε συνεργασία με το Ειδικό Γυμνάσιο-Λύκειο Κωφών και βαρήκοων Αργυρούπολης – μουσική επιμέλεια Ντάνα Παπαχρήστου, Γιώργος Μιζήθρας, Ορέστης Καραμανλής, σχεδιασμός «απτού ραδιοφώνου»: Πέτρος Φλαμπούρης), και «Ηχητική τέχνη και Κωφή εμπειρία – η ακοή ως ενσώματο βίωμα» των Κοινωνικών και Εκπαιδευτικών Δράσεων της Εθνικής Λυρικής Σκηνής (συντονισμός Ντάνα Παπαχρήστου, Γιώργος Σαμαντάς, με τη συνεργασία του Ορέστη Καραμανλή – performers: Deaf Ensemble & Διαπολιτισμική Ορχήστρα ΕΛΣ, με την καθοδήγηση του Χάρη Λαμπράκη). «Στον Πλανήτη» (15’)
Μια ραδιοφωνική ιστορία που δημιουργήθηκε σε συνεργασία με μαθητές, μαθήτριες και εκπαιδευτικούς του Ειδικού Γυμνασίου-Λυκείου Κωφών και Βαρήκοων Αργυρούπολης, μέσω καλλιτεχνικών εργαστηρίων που συντόνισαν η Καλλιόπη Τακάκη και η Ντάνα Παπαχρήστου στο πλαίσιο του προγράμματος «Απτό Ραδιόφωνο – Τάξη στον Αέρα». Μουσική σύνθεση: Γιώργος Μιζήθρας, Ντάνα Παπαχρήστου, μουσικός συντονισμός: Ορέστης Καραμανλής, σχεδιασμός συσκευής «απτού ραδιοφώνου»: Πέτρος Φλαμπούρης. Το πρόγραμμα έλαβε την οικονομική υποστήριξη του Υπουργείου Πολιτισμού και Αθλητισμού της Ελλάδας.
Η εκπομπή θα παιχτεί προ-ηχογραφημένη στις 4 Αυγούστου, στις 17:00 – 18:00 (ώρα Ιταλίας)
Το κοινό της Biennale θα μπορεί να ακούσει τα podcasts στο χώρο του Ball Theater μέσω φορητών ηχείων bluetooth. Η εκπομπή “στον πλανήτη” θα αναμεταδοθεί προ-ηχογραφημένη στο Ball
Theatre την Παρασκευή 4 Αυγούστου, συνοδευόμενη από πρόγραμμα με την
απομαγνητοφώνηση και την αγγλική της μετάφραση, μετεγγραμένη σε
γραφή Braille, σε μια έκδοση που επιμελήθηκε η Κερασία Μιχαλοπούλου.
Tο Ball Theatre, που θα φιλοξενήσει τις συγκεκριμένες δράσεις, σχεδιάστηκε από την αρχιτεκτονική ομάδα Muoto (Gilles Delalex, Yves Moreau), Georgi Stanishev, Jos Auzende, Clémence la Sagna, and Anna Tardivel. Είναι, με τα λόγια των ίδιων, “μια εγκατάσταση σχεδιασμένη για να ξαναξυπνήσει τις επιθυμίες μας για ουτοπία. Το ημισφαιρικό της σχήμα παραπέμπει […] τόσο στη γήινη σφαίρα, όσο και σε ντισκομπάλα, το κιτς εικόνισμα μιας εποχής που το πάρτυ ήταν ακόμα εφικτό, [προτείνοντας] μια νέα προσέγγιση στις κρίσεις του σήμερα, μέσω της οποίας η έμφαση μετατοπίζεται από την έκτακτη ανάγκη στη δυνατότητα εναλλακτικών μελλόντων”.
Κατά τη διάρκεια της εβδομάδας 1-5 Αυγούστου, “το Ball Theater μεταμορφώνεται σε ένα πραγματικό ραδιοφωνικό στούντιο ανοιχτό στο κοινό. Καταγράφοντας και μεταδίδοντας διάφορα είδη ηχητικών αποσπασμάτων, αυτή η ραδιοφωνική κεραία συνδέει το ραδιοθέατρο με πολυάριθμους Γάλλους και ξένους συνεργάτες, εδάφη, ιδρύματα, ερευνητές, καλλιτέχνες και ειδικούς της ακουστικής. Ο προγραµµατισµός του αλλάζει καθ’ όλη τη διάρκεια της εβδοµάδας, µε µια σειρά ζωντανών εκποµπών µε τίτλο “News from the World” («Νέα από τον κόσµο»), ειδικές εγκαταστάσεις και τη δυνατότητα περιπλάνησης στους εσωτερικούς και εξωτερικούς χώρους του περιπτέρου µε µίνι ηχεία από όλο τον κόσµο, που συγκεντρώθηκαν µέσω µιας πρόσκλησης. Αυτό το εργαστήριο ήχου προσφέρει μια πειραματική πλατφόρμα για να κατανοήσουμε καλύτερα την εποχή μας, να μάθουμε να ακούμε διαφορετικά και να κάνουμε ακουστές νέες φωνές από εδώ και από αλλού.”

TWIXTlab at the Biennale Architettura di Venezia 2023
TWIXTlab participates in the Venice Biennale of Architecture, at the Ball Theatre, namely in the French Pavilion of the exhibition, during the five days 1-5 of August, in the framework of “Radio Utopia – Nouvelles du Monde / News from the World”.
Specifically, TWIXTlab will present 4 radio productions (3 podcasts and a radio story), stemming from three years of research work within the framework of the cultural cooperation project B-Air: Art Infinity Radio, co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union.
The podcasts are entitled “Art from one sense to the other”, “Tangible sound” and “Critical reflections on sound as a multi-sensory experience”. These podcasts include excerpts of a discussion on the notion of sensory translation, applications with tangible sound, as well as a reflection on the approach to sound as a multi-sensory experience. Additionally, “On the Planet” radio story, that was created in collaboration between students and teachers from the Special High School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing of Argyroupolis and the TWIXTlab team of collaborators, will also be broadcast.

The podcasts are musically complemented by excerpts of compositions and recordings resulting from the artistic workshops: “Tangible Radio – Class on Air” (in collaboration with the Special High School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing of Argyroupolis – radio editing & composition: Giorgos Mizithras, Dana Papachristou, Orestis Karamanlis; design of “tangible radio” device: Petros Flambouris), and “Sound Art and Deaf Experience – hearing as a physical experience” of the Social and Educational Actions of the Greek National Opera (coordination Dana Papachristou, Yorgos Samantas, with the collaboration of Orestis Karamanlis – “Radar” composed by Orestis Karamanlis; performers: the Deaf Ensemble & Transcultural Orchestra of the Greek National Opera, with the guidance of Haris Lambrakis). “On the Planet” (15′)
A radio story created in collaboration with students and teachers of the Special High School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing of Argyroupolis, through artistic workshops coordinated by Kalliopi Takaki and Dana Papachristou in the framework of the project “Tangible Radio – Class in the Air” (in collaboration with the Special High School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing of Argyroupolis – radio editing & composition: Giorgos Mizithras, Dana Papachristou, Orestis Karamanlis; design of “tangible radio” device: Petros Flambouris). The project was supported financially by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports.
The story will be broadcasted Friday August 4th, at 17:00 – 18:00 (CET)
The Biennale audience will be able to listen to the podcasts in the Ball Theater area via portable bluetooth speakers. “On the planet” will be broadcast on Ball
Theatre on Friday 4 August, accompanied by a programme with
transcript and its English translation, transcribed in
Braille, in a publication edited by Kerasia Michalopoulou.
The Ball Theatre, which will host these actions, was designed by the architectural team Muoto (Gilles Delalex, Yves Moreau), Georgi Stanishev, Jos Auzende, Clémence la Sagna, and Anna Tardivel. It is, in their words, “an installation designed to reawaken our desires for utopia. Its hemispherical shape evokes […] both the terrestrial sphere and a disco ball, the kitschy icon of a time when partying was still possible, [suggesting] a new approach to the crises of today, through which the emphasis shifts from the emergency to the possibility of alternative futures.
“During this week, the Ball Theater is transformed́ into a veritable radio studio open to the public. Capturing and broadcasting different types of sound extracts, this radio antenna connects the radio theatre to numerous French and foreign partners, territories, institutions, researchers, artists and acousticians. Its programming changes throughout the week, with a series of live broadcasts entitled “News from the world”, site-specific installations and the opportunitý to wander around the pavilion’s interior and exterior spaces with mini sound speakers from all over the world, collected through a call for contributions. This sound laboratory offers an experimental platform to better grasp our times, learn to listen differently and make audible new voices from here and elsewhere.”
