Γιώργος Σαμαντάς

Ο Γιώργος Σαμαντάς (απόφοιτος του τμήματος Κοινωνικής Ανθρωπολογίας και Ιστορίας του Παν/μιου Αιγαίου, Μεταπτυχιακός Τίτλος Σπουδών στην Οπτική Ανθρωπολογία / Εθνογραφική Τεκμηρίωση με Αισθητηριακά Μέσα, του Πανεπιστημίου του Μάντσεστερ) είναι κοινωνικός ανθρωπολόγος, καλλιτέχνης του ήχου και sound designer.  Χρησιμοποιεί τον ήχο, το περπάτημα και άλλα μέσα για τη διεύρυνση της ανθρωπολογικής έρευνας, έκφρασης και γνώσης, καθώς και την εθνογραφική έρευνα προς όφελος της καλλιτεχνικής παραγωγής. Έχει εργαστεί σε τομείς όπως η προφορική ιστορία, η ηχητική κληρονομιά, η ακουστική οικολογία, η ανθρωπολογία του ήχου, των πόλεων, του περιβάλλοντος, στην Αθήνα, το Μάντσεστερ και σε νησιά των Κυκλάδων (Άνδρος, Νάξος, Σύρος, Τήνος). Έχει συμμετάσχει σε διατομεακά/διεπιστημονικά εγχειρήματα όπως στην ομάδα “Φωνές”, το ερευνητικό πρόγραμμα “Μαθαίνοντας από τη documenta”, και την ομάδα «Akoo-o». Αυτή τη στιγμή συντονίζει το ερευνητικό και καλλιτεχνικό πρόγραμμα “Αudibility” στο πλαίσιο του προγράμματος B-Air: Art Infinity Radio σε συχγρηματοότηση του Creative Europe, σχετικά με την Κωφή εμπειρία με τη μουσική και τον ήχο, για λογαριασμό του TWIXTlab.

Έχει συμμετάσχει σε καλλιτεχνικά δρώμενα, φεστιβάλ, καλλιτεχνικά residencies, εκθέσεις, παρουσιάσεις, και συνέδρια στην Ελλάδα και διεθνώς. Έχει εργαστεί ως ηχολήπτης, sound designer κι ερευνητής σε ταινίες τεκμηρίωσης, επιμελητής στο ραδιόφωνο (ΜΚΟ ΠΡΑΚΣΙΣ – 105,5 Στο Κόκκινο), καλλιτεχνικός διαμεσολαβητής (documenta14, 10th Berlin Biennale), και ως εκπαιδευτής ενηλίκων σε προγράμματα κοινωνικής έρευνας στην πόλη (Τεχνοπολη – Innovathens, Balkan Beyond Borders, κα.), κι ως dj.

 

Yorgos Samantas (BA Social Anthropology and History, University of the Aegean, MA Visual Anthropology / Ethnographic Documentary with Sensory Media, University of Manchester) is a social anthropologist, sound artist and sound designer.  He uses sound, walking, and other media as means of experimentation to expand anthropological modalitites, as well as ethnographic research for the benefit of artistic production. He has worked in areas such as oral history, sound heritage, acoustic ecology, urban anthropology, environmental anthropology, and the anthropology of disability, in Athens, Manchester and on various Aegean islands (Andros, Naxos, Syros, Tinos, Lemnos, Kythera). He has participated in transdisciplinary projects such as “Fonés”, “Learning from documenta” research project, and “Akoo-o” group. He is currently coordinating the research and artistic project “Audibility” on the Deaf experience with music and sound, on behalf of  TWIXTlab, co-funded by the Creative Europe program of the EU.

He has participated in art events, festivals, artist residencies, exhibitions, presentations, and conferences in Greece and internationally. He has worked as a sound designer, sound engineer and researcher in documentary films, radio curator (NGO PRAKSIS – 105,5 Sto Kokkino), art mediator/educator (documenta14, 10th Berlin Biennale), educator/facilitator in urban social research projects (Technopolis – Innovathens, Balkan Beyond Borders, etc.), and a dj.
