Rowan Tara de Freitas is a multidisciplinary artist and educator based between the UK and mainland Europe. She uses photography, film, writing and performance to create meeting points between live, recorded and observed actions, and to play with the boundaries of documentation and storytelling. Through dialogue surrounding public and private space, language, intimacy and personal histories she investigates everyday phenomena that link the personal to the political. Often experimenting with celluloid film and hand-made photo chemistry, she brings the process out of the lab and into a collaborative and performative setting. She has participated in three international artist residencies; TANTEO, Sound Development City and MultiMadeira. She has collaborated with artists, musicians, sound artists, choreographers and theatre practitioners and has performed and exhibited work in the UK, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Serbia, Greece and Mexico.
