Each of the seven members of TWIXTlab presents and coordinates a thematic that develops between (twixt) art, anthropology, and everyday life. Meetings take place on Monday 19.00-22.00, twice a month.

The Least wanted Travel the Most generates on a ground related to moving from place to place, while learning and archiving personal stories donated by individuals. After placing the project in Athens, Gouseti invites Batista at TWIXTlab in order to present different pieces by ex-collaborators of CAPACETE which have shaped the way the CAPACETE/Athens has been designed. Those projects are related to indigenous populations living in deep Brazil. The resulting discussion will facilitate the ground for questions related to how to internalise permission to do something somewhere else. Which are the questions rising by doing those moves? And more precisely, how does CAPACETE as an institute moves around carrying those questions and how Gouseti as an artist does so.

The Least Wanted Travel The Most is based on an allegory and uses the ground a custom found in areas of FYROMacedonia creates. There, a dinner set is a very typical wedding present. As a result, new married couples end up having many more dinner sets than they need. So they keep as many as they can use, exchange as many as possible in relevant shops, and keep the rest in order to offer them as wedding presents in some other weddings. As a result the least wanted dinner sets travel endlessly.
In this case, dinner sets are equated to people that leave the place of their origin due to discomfort, in order to search for solutions.

Το The Least wanted Travel the Most αναπαράγεται σε έδαφος σχετικό με τη μετακίνηση από τόπο σε τόπο, και αρχειοθετεί μαθαίνοντας προσωπικές ιστορίες που προσφέρονται από άτομα. Μετά την επιτέλεση του έργου στην Αθήνα, η Γουσέτη προσκαλεί τον Batista στο TWIXTlab για να παρουσιάσει διαφορετικά έργα πρώην συνεργατών του CAPACETE τα οποία έχουν διαμορφώσει τον τρόπο με τον οποίο σχεδιάστηκε το CAPACETE / Athens. Τα έργα αυτά σχετίζονται με αυτόχθονες πληθυσμούς που ζουν στη βαθιά Βραζιλία. Η συζήτηση που θα ακολουθήσει θα αφορά τους τρόπους εσωτερίκευσης της άδειας να κάνει κάποιος κάτι κάπου αλλού. Ποια είναι τα ερωτήματα που προκύπτουν με αυτές τις μετακινήσεις; Και πιο συγκεκριμένα, πώς κινείται το CAPACETE ως θεσμός γύρω από αυτές τις ερωτήσεις και πώς η Gouseti ως καλλιτέχνης;

The Least Wanted Travel The Most είναι μια αλληγορία που χρησιμοποιεί το έδαφος μίας συνήθειας. Στη Βορεια Μακεδονία [ΠΓΔΜακεδονίας στο πρωτότυπο] ένα σερβίτσιο είναι ένα τυπικό γαμήλιο δώρο. Ως αποτέλεσμα, τα νιόπαντρα ζευγάρια καταλήγουν να έχουν πολλά περισσότερα από αυτά που χρειάζονται. Κρατούν όσα μπορούν να χρησιμοποιήσουν, ανταλλάζουν όσο το δυνατόν περισσότερα σε συναφή καταστήματα και διατηρούν τα υπόλοιπα έτσι ώστε να τα προσφέρουν ως γαμήλια δώρα σε άλλους γάμους. Έτσι, τα λιγότερο επιθυμητά σερβίτσια ταξιδεύουν ασταμάτητα.
Στην περίπτωση αυτή, τα σερβίτσια εξομοιώνονται με ανθρώπους που εγκαταλείπουν τον τόπο καταγωγής τους λόγω πάσης φύσεως δυσφορίας, προκειμένου να αναζητήσουν λύσεις.
Θα χαρώ πολύ αν θελήσετε να συμμετέχετε έμπρακτα προσφέροντας τα μέρη σερβίτσιων (κούπες, πιατάκια, πιατέλες, ζαχαριέρες κτλ) που σας είναι ανεπιθύμητα.

1. About love
A festive gathering on romantic love and the prolific cultural and personal storytelling about it.
We’ll share memories of love songs, romantic dinners, movies or books that have moved us, thus celebrating pop culture for all the clichés that help us still believe in romance.

2. About the everyday; particularly, about food.
Elpida Rikou will discuss meanings of the reference to “everyday” and ways that this reference is embodied to the concept and activities of a project “between art and anthropology” as ΤWIXTlab. As an example, Elpida Rikou will present the project “about food” which she has realized in collaboration with Dimitra Kondylatou (2016-2017). The presentation will be enriched with new proposals by certain of the project’s participants (Sofia Grigoriadou, Maroula Papanastassi, Elpida Rikou, Evgenia Vakalopoulou).

Τι σημαίνει η αναφορά στην «καθημερινότητα» και πώς εντάσσεται στο σκεπτικό και τις δράσεις ενός project μεταξύ τέχνης και ανθρωπολογίας όπως το TWIXTlab? Θεωρητικές αναζητήσεις συνδυάζονται με καλλιτεχνικές πρακτικές στην επαναπραγμάτευση τριών projects που πραγματοποιήθηκαν μεταξύ 2015-2017: «Σχετικά με την τροφή» (4/12 μαζί με την Δ.Κονδυλάτου), «Σχετικά με τον έρωτα» (18/12 με τους Δ.Σαραφείδου, Α.Λαμπρόπουλο, κά.) και « Αδαής Δάσκαλος» (με αφορμή γνωστό κείμενο του φιλοσόφου J.Rancière), εργαστήριο για το οποίο ορισμένοι (κοινώς λεγόμενοι) «ερασιτέχνες» συνεργάτες του TWIXTlab αναλαμβάνουν να διοργανώσουν β’ κύκλο συναντήσεων. Για τις 4 πρώτες συναντήσεις (έναρξη 17/12), η Δ.Μπάμπαλη, performer, ερευνήτρια και «στον ελεύθερό της χρόνο» καθηγήτρια Αγγλικών, προτείνει το θέμα: «Εξασκώντας το Ιδιόρρυθμο».

Μια συνάντηση με εορταστικό χαρακτήρα για τον έρωτα και τις σχετικές αφηγήσεις που αφθονούν σε προσωπικό και πολιτισμικό επίπεδο.
Θα μοιραστούμε αναμνήσεις από ερωτικά τραγούδια, ρομαντικά δείπνα, ταινίες ή βιβλία που μας έχουν συγκινήσει, τιμώντας την ποπ κουλτούρα για όλα τα κλισέ που μας βοηθούν να πιστεύουμε ακόμα στα ειδύλλια.

Printed publication will be the central theme during January. Theoretical approaches on the printing press, as well as contemporary publication practices, will be our raw material for discussing and engaging with the logic of the print.
Logics of the Printing Press #1

TWIXTlab meetings proceed into January, on the theme “Logics of the printing press”, coordinated by Giorgos Samantas. Monday 8/1 we will tune in a conversation that will revolve around vinyl.
If the printing press brought the industrial revolution into the domain of discourse, what did mass production do for music? What challenges and possibilities emerge within an age of digital reproduction and distribution for the music industry? What is the relation of music with its “printed” form? And what are the relations between vinyl and other playback media? And how does the way we listen to, make and deal with music change, throughout time and through different technologies?
Central discussants are Adamantios Kafentzis (Teranga Beat), Voltnoi Brege – Drog A Tek, The Erasers), Nicolas Malevitsis (Absurd, Rekem Records, Εμβοές), Dāna Papachristou (Paris 8/Ionian Uni.) and Thalia Raftopoulou (DJ Lurie, Rekem).
After the discussion, film screening:
“Rockers” (Ted Bafaloukos, 1978). A (nearly) ethnofiction film made during the zenith of the Jamaican musical industry in the 70ies. Giorgos Samantas, visual and sound anthropologist, dj and a relative of the recently deceased director, will provide a small introduction for the film. The film will be screened in its original English language, with Jamaican patois subtitles on occasion.
Logics of the Printing Press #2
What stories does a printed artifact say, besides its printed words? What kind of relations, values, logics and paradoxes does it carry beyond, next to, or in synergy with the text? In this second event of TWIXTlab concerning the “Logics of the Printing Press”, coordinated by Giorgos Samantas, we will engage in a discussion between people and printed subjects from the domain of visual arts. Between others, we will investigate the productive relations, semiotic values, and the relations between text, form and design engendered in printed matter, as well as its relations with reading audiences and the city. Οι συναντήσεις του TWIXTlab συνεχίζονται και τον Ιανουάριο, με την ενότητα «Λογικές του πιεστηρίου», σε συντονισμό του Γιώργου Σαμαντά. Τη Δευτέρα 8 ξεκινάμε μουσικά, με μία συζήτηση και μια προβολή που περιστρέφονται γύρω από το βινύλιο. Αν η τυπογραφία έφερε τη βιομηχανική επανάσταση στο επίπεδο του λόγου, τι ανάλογες επιπτώσεις είχε για τη μουσική η μαζική κυκλοφορία της; Τι είδους προκλήσεις αλλά και δυνατότητες συναντά η μουσική βιομηχανία την εποχή της ψηφιακής αναπαραγωγής και διανομής ηχητικού περιεχομένου; Ποια η σχέση της μουσικής με την «έντυπη» μορφή της, και ποια η σχέση του βινυλίου με άλλα μέσα; Πώς αλλάζει ο τρόπος που ακούμε, παίζουμε και διαχειριζόμαστε τη μουσική;

Τί ιστορίες λέει ένα έντυπο, πέρα από τις τυπωμένες φράσεις του; Τί είδους σχέσεις, αξίες, λογικές και παράδοξα μεταφέρει πλάι, ή σε συνέργεια με το κείμενο; Στη δεύτερη εκδήλωση του TWIXTlab σχετικά με τις «Λογικές του Πιεστηρίου», σε συντονισμό του Γιώργου Σαμαντά, θα καταπιαστούμε με αυτοσχέδιες εκδόσεις και μικρούς εκδοτικούς οίκους από το χώρο -ή στα όρια- των εικαστικών τεχνών. Μεταξύ άλλων θα μας απασχολήσουν οι παραγωγικές σχέσεις, οι σημειολογικές αξίες, η σχέση λόγου-φόρμας-σχεδιασμού και οι σχέσεις του εντύπου με τα (αναγνωστικά) κοινά και με την πόλη, σε μια συζήτηση μεταξύ ανθρώπων και έντυπων υποκειμένων.

Tourism, economy, artistic practices | Coordination: Dimitra Kondylatou
For the last couple of years there has been a significant rise in tourism in Athens that is partly connected with certain displacements within contemporary art. The seminar on February focuses on the multiple aspects of the relationships among certain artistic practices and their contexts with tourism. It questions in which ways does the art residency appear to be a focal point between the two and it initiates a dialogue, in order to discuss new possible requests on residencies and new forms of participation.

Presentation of art projects and discussion
The to-know-us-better meetings at TWIXTlab continue on February, with a discussion on “Tourism, economy and artistic practices: on art residencies”, organised by Dimitra Kondylatou. The first meeting, on Monday 5/2, will be about the residential project The island – resignified, a project also conceived and co-ordinated by Dimitra Kondylatou, hosted by neion guesthouse on the island of Lefkada, that has been the starting point for her research on the relationship between art and tourism and the significance of the phenomenon of art residencies in this affair.The presentation will take place with the participation of Erifyli Veneri, Eva Giannakopoulou, Adamantios Kafetzis, Anna Papaioannou, Maria Papapostolou, Elpida Rikou and Athens Subsumption, who will talk of different aspects of their projects realised for The island – resignified and will initiate a general discussion with the public on methodologies and artistic practices invented or implemented because of the specific conditions of the art residencies.During the presentation, there will be a small scale projection of the works realised within the framework of The island – resignified, in its three editions from 2015 to now.
On art residencies #2

The meetings at TWIXTlab continue on February, with a discussion on “Tourism, economy and artistic practices: on art residencies”, organised by Dimitra Kondylatou. The second meeting, on Monday 26/2, will be on the politics and poetics of art residencies. Our guests are organisers in such projects, located in different areas in Greece, from big centres to isolated peripheries. Most of these areas are attractive tourist destinations, for contemporary artists as well. This fact may partly explain the big presence and the sustainability of such structures in Greek rural areas. During the discussion we will focus on different aspects of art residencies, such as their relationship with the places where they are located, the economies around such projects and their content and activities. More precisely we will discuss how the different conditions of the centre and the periphery form and influence the content and the functions of the art residencies, to which audience they address, what is their connection to the international art scene and to the local community, what are their economic tactics and how they position themselves within an international artistic economy and finally what do they contribute to the artistic production, thought and discourse.

Ενώ ο τουρισμός στην Αθήνα αυξάνεται διαρκώς τα τελευταία χρόνια, συχνά διαπιστώνουμε την άμεση σύνδεση αυτού του φαινομένου με ορισμένες μετατοπίσεις στη σύγχρονη τέχνη. Το σεμινάριο του Φεβρουαρίου επικεντρώνεται στην πολύπλευρη σχέση ορισμένων καλλιτεχνικών πρακτικών και του πλαισίου τους με τον τουρισμό. Εξετάζει εάν και με ποιό τρόπο ο θεσμός των art residencies λειτουργεί ως κομβικό σημείο μεταξύ των δύο και ξεκινά ένα διάλογο ώστε να συζητηθούν νέοι τρόποι συμμετοχής και να βρεθούν νέα ζητούμενα σχετικά με τα προγράμματα φιλοξενίας καλλιτεχνών.

Οι συναντήσεις του Twixt συνεχίζονται το Φεβρουάριο με τη θεματική “Τουρισμός, οικονομία, σύγχρονες εικαστικές πρακτικές: περί καλλιτεχνικών δομών φιλοξενίας”, που διοργανώνει η Δήμητρα Κονδυλάτου. Στην πρώτη συνάντηση, τη Δευτέρα 5/2, θα παρουσιαστεί το project φιλοξενίας καλλιτεχνών The island – resignified, που επίσης διοργανώνει η Δήμητρα Κονδυλάτου στον ξενώνα Νήιον στη Λευκάδα και αποτελεί την αφορμή για την διερεύνηση της σχέσης τέχνης και τουρισμού και τη σημασία του θεσμού των residencies σε αυτή τη σχέση.
Με τη συμμετοχή των Εριφύλη Βενέρη, Εύας Γιαννακοπούλου, Αδαμάντιου Καφετζή, Άννας Παπαϊωάννου, Mαρίας Παπαποστόλου, Ελπίδας Ρίκου και Athens Subsumption, που θα μας μιλήσουν για τα projects που υλοποίησαν στα πλαίσια του The island – resignified και θα ξεκινήσουν μια συζήτηση, ανοιχτή στο κοινό, περί των μεθοδολογιών και των καλλιτεχνικών πρακτικών που αναπτύσσονται υπό τις ιδιαίτερες συνθήκες των art residencies.

TWIXTlab_ μεταξύ τέχνης, ανθρωπολογίας και καθημερινότητας

Οι συναντήσεις του TWIXTlab συνεχίζονται το Φεβρουάριο με τη θεματική “Τουρισμός, οικονομία, σύγχρονες εικαστικές πρακτικές: περί καλλιτεχνικών δομών φιλοξενίας”, που διοργανώνει η Δήμητρα Κονδυλάτου. Η δεύτερη συνάντηση τη Δευτέρα 26/2, αφορά στις πολιτικές και στις ποιητικές των δομών φιλοξενίας καλλιτεχνών. Προσκεκλημένοι είναι άνθρωποι που διοργανώνουν τέτοια προγράμματα στην Ελλάδα, σε διαφορετικές μεταξύ τους περιοχές εντός και εκτός των μεγάλων αστικών κέντρων. Οι περισσότερες από αυτές τις περιοχές είναι τουριστικοί προορισμοί ή τόποι διακοπών για όλους, μη εξαιρουμένων των σύγχρονων εικαστικών. Αυτό το γεγονός εξηγεί ενδεχομένως την παρουσία και την βιωσιμότητα πολλών τέτοιων δομών στον ελλαδικό χώρο. Αυτά τα παραδείγματα, γεννούν μια σειρά από ερωτήματα γύρω από τη σχέση τους με τον τόπο στον οποίο βρίσκονται, την οικονομία και τη δράση τους. Πιο συγκεκριμένα θα συζητήσουμε πώς οι διαφορετικές συνθήκες του κέντρου και της περιφέρειας επηρεάζουν και διαμορφώνουν το περιεχόμενο και τη λειτουργία αυτών των δομών, σε ποιο κοινό απευθύνονται και ποια είναι η θέση τους και η σύνδεσή τους με την παγκόσμια καλλιτεχνική σκηνή, αλλά και την τοπική κοινωνία στην οποία ανήκουν, ποιες είναι οι οικονομικές τους τακτικές και πώς τοποθετούνται σε σχέση με την παγκόσμια καλλιτεχνική οικονομία και τελικά ποια είναι η συνεισφορά τους στην καλλιτεχνική παραγωγή και σκέψη.

Is “Athens the new Berlin” or is it “the new Montmartre”? Is it the “birthplace of democracy” or “a city of crisis”? Or is it maybe a “big art residency” and “a laboratory of creative ideas”? In any case, “welcome and enjoy the ruins”! We will approach and (re)produce images and discourses about the city of Athens through a series of presentations, discussions and workshops. We will examine how contemporary art is involved in city branding in a discussion extending to tours, public space, and mapping.

At the same time, artists and architects have been commenting on the state’s plans through interventions in the city. Starting with certain artworks and projects that took place during the latest years in Athens and in Skopje, we will examine how artists and curators respond to changes in both cities in a discussion extending to public interventions, tours, city branding, and exoticisation.

Last time’s discussion started from the artworks. This time, leaving the artworks (not completely) aside, we will focus on procedures, tools, and thoughts around art and culture in today’s Athens: Running a platform about contemporary art events; designing routes and maps of the city and its artscene; painting an airbnb wall; curating an exhibition about urban space; being a d14 chorus member; tracking elements of exoticisation in the media; responding to changes in the city; thinking about cultural tourism; and the working conditions within the fields of art and culture in Athens today are some of the topics to be discussed between a diverse panel and the audience.

Επανεξετάζοντας την εικόνα της Αθήνας | Συντονισμός: Σοφία Γρηγοριάδου
“Η Αθήνα είναι το νέο Βερολίνο” ή “η νέα Μονμάρτη”; “Η γενέτειρα της δημοκρατίας” ή μια “πόλη της κρίσης”; Ή μήπως είναι “ένα μεγάλο καλλιτεχνικό residency” κι ένα “εργαστήριο δημιουργικών ιδεών”; Σε κάθε περίπτωση, “καλωσήρθατε και απολαύστε τα ερείπια”! Μέσα από μια σειρά παρουσιάσεων, συζητήσεων και εργαστηρίων θα προσεγγίσουμε και θα (ανα)παράξουμε εικόνες και λόγους για την πόλη της Αθήνας. Θα εξετάσουμε πώς η σύγχρονη τέχνη εμπλέκεται σε ζητήματα city branding σε μία συζήτηση με προεκτάσεις στα tours, τον δημόσιο χώρο και τη χαρτογράφηση.

Εκτός από την Αθήνα, στη συζήτηση της πρώτης συνάντησης θα περιληφθεί και η πόλη των Σκοπίων, καθώς η τέχνη έπαιξε σημαντικό ρόλο στην τελευταία ανάπλαση της πόλης (Skopje 2014). Την ίδια στιγμή, καλλιτέχνες και αρχιτέκτονες σχολίασαν τα κρατικά σχέδια μέσα από παρεμβάσεις στην πόλη. Με αφετηρία συγκεκριμένα έργα και projects που έλαβαν χώρα τα τελευταία χρόνια τόσο στην Αθήνα όσο και στα Σκόπια θα εξετάσουμε πώς καλλιτέχνες και επιμελητές ανταποκρίνονται σε αλλαγές στις δύο πόλεις σε μια συζήτηση που εκτείνεται σε δημόσιες παρεμβάσεις, περιηγήσεις, city branding, και εξωτικοποίηση.

Αυτή τη φορά, αφήνοντάς τα (όχι εντελώς) κατά μέρος, θα επικεντρωθούμε σε διαδικασίες, εργαλεία και σκέψεις γύρω από την τέχνη και τον πολιτισμό στη σημερινή Αθήνα: η λειτουργία μιας ενημερωτικής πλατφόρμας για εκδηλώσεις σύγχρονης τέχνης, ο σχεδιασμός διαδρομών και χαρτών για την πόλη και την τέχνη της, η παραγωγή ενός επιτοίχιου έργου για ένα airbnb διαμέρισμα, η επιμέλεια μιας έκθεσης για τον αστικό χώρο, η εμπειρία από τη συμμετοχή στον χορό της d14, ο εντοπισμός στοιχείων εξωτικοποίησης στα μέσα ενημέρωσης, η ανταπόκριση σε αλλαγές στην πόλη, σκέψεις γύρω από τον πολιτισμικό τουρισμό και η εργασία στην τέχνη και τον πολιτισμό στην Αθήνα σήμερα, είναι μερικά από τα θέματα που θα συζητηθούν ανάμεσα σε μία πολυδιάστατη ομάδα συζητητών και το κοινό.

On Aquatic Memory: An artist talk by Hera Büyüktaşcıyan
As part of the 2017-18 program, TWIXTlab is initiating a series of artist talks by artists that draw their methods and practices from the social sciences and the humanities. Our first invited artists from the surrounding region of Greece, Turkey and Albania will present their work and let us into their art-making processes. Starting with Hera Büyüktaşcıyan on the 29th of March at 19:00, we will have the chance to meet the artist and discuss her work, her theoretical references, influences and inspirations.
// Hera Büyüktaşcıyan (1984, Istanbul) graduated from Marmara University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Painting Department in 2006.
Hera Büyüktaşçıyan locates the figure of the other between the twinned spectres of absence and invisibility in order to weave connections between identity, memory, space and time. She works as a storyteller, integrating metaphors from local myths, historical and iconographic elements of different geographies to open up new narrative scopes. Water is a recurring theme in her practice, referring to what the artist understands as the fluid, aquatic nature of memory. Her most recent work enquires into the meaning of ‘absence’ within collective memory without focusing on the destructive aspect of nostalgia but more of recreating and reconstructing new realities or representations out of the existence of the invisible. Whilst unfolding different layers of invisibility and presence within absence in terms of the understanding space, the artist seeks new perspectives of representing a mental space within this framework with an archaeological and sociological approach.
On identity politics: An artist talk by Olson Lamaj
Olson Lamaj’s work draws from the political aspects of the everyday life in Albania to refer to more universal issues. In this small and isolated, ex-communist country, nationalistic debates significantly impact everyday life and define the formation of cityscapes. Lamaj will address issues concerning the politics of new monuments and the management of communist heritage in the local context of Albania.

** About the artist:
Olson Lamaj is a Tirana-based artist. His work is dealing with social and political issues related both to contemporary life in Albania and to more universal and timeless systems of meaning. Lamaj’s projects emphasize the “semiotic oversaturation” – and the mysterious, almost mystical qualities – of objects and images related to political ideologies of various kinds. His artworks function as a collective mythography of the present, laying the groundwork for revealing new myths.
As one of the co-founders of MIZA Gallery in Tirana, Lamaj’s own experience as an artist has been combined with the establishment of art spaces and institutions in Tirana. He has participated in numerous exhibitions in Europe, including Ludwig Museum in Budapest, Albanian National Gallery, Kosovo Gallery of Arts, Pino Paskali Foundation in Bari, Neurotitan Art Space in Berlin, Rotor Gallery in Graz and at last in FLUC art space in Vienna .

Η τέχνη στις γειτονικές χώρες των Βαλκανίων έλκει τα τελευταία χρόνια το ενδιαφέρον πολλών κεντρικών θεσμών της Δύσης. Η μέχρι σήμερα θεωρούμενη ως «περιφέρεια» της σύγχρονης τέχνης, αποτελεί πια πόλο έλξης επιμελητών, καλλιτεχνών, συλλεκτών αλλά και ιδιωτικών κεφαλαίων. Πως όμως φτάσαμε μέχρι εδώ; Ποιες κοινωνικοπολιτικες συνθήκες συνέβαλλαν σε αυτή τη μεταβολή; Το σεμινάριο του Απριλίου θα επικεντρωθεί στην σύγχρονη καλλιτεχνική παραγωγή της Αλβανίας και την πρόσφατη ιστορία της τέχνης στην Τουρκία.

Gender identity and parenthood (gynaikopaida) | Coordination: Eva Giannakopoulou
Departing from both an artistic and theoretical approach of “different parenthood”, the seminar aims to question and provide eventual answers on prevailing motherhood and fatherhood conceptualizations, the social mechanisms of inclusion and exclusion, the condition of biological and non-biological parenthood of the LGBTQI and heterosexual partnership or that of single parents, in a social and legal context.
Adopting a dialectical method between personal and political, we will attempt rethinking the bipolar “art and parenthood” in a context where roles and identities are highlighted as topics of an open and continuous negotiation.

Neutral noun, in plural, gynaikopeda, women and children (in conflict times the reference indicates them as the most common, helpless and defenseless victims).

Departing from an artistic and theoretical approach of parenthood, the presentations aim to question the prevailing motherhood and fatherhood conceptualizations, the social mechanisms of inclusion and exclusion and the condition of biological and non-biological parenthood in social and legal context. Adopting a dialectical method between personal and political, we will attempt rethinking “art and parenthood” in a context where roles and identities are highlighted as topics of open and continuous negotiation.
Talks, interventions, performative actions, films and videos, painting, sculpture, photographs and literature, will constitute a field of meetings where moms and dads, daughters, sons, cousins, brothers, aunts and further relatives, will converse on gender identities, birth, medicalization and performativity of the female, feminized or effeminate body. Which is the role of works and expressions approaching body and memory politics, stereotypical -or not- representations of kinship and children, in a social context redefined by “different parenthood”? How can these “kinship articulations” constitute a referential artistic field that can be studied or archived?
The gynaikopeda encounters will take place in TWIXTlab on the 30th of May and the 6th of June, with the contributions of groups, duos, individuals, parents, those who want or don’t want to become parents, as well as those who held a posotion in respect.

Εκκινώντας από μια εικαστική και θεωρητική προσέγγιση της «διαφορετικής γονεϊκότητας», σκοπός του σεμιναρίου, είναι να θέσει ερωτήματα και ενδεχόμενες απαντήσεις που αφορούν στις κυρίαρχες εννοιολόγησεις της μητρότητας και της πατρότητας, τους κοινωνικούς μηχανισμούς αποδοχής και αποκλεισμού, την συνθήκη των βιολογικών -ή μη- δομών συγγένειας των LGBTQI και ετερόφυλων ζευγαριών ή μονογονέων, σε κοινωνικό και νομικό πλαίσιο. Ποιος ο ρόλος έργων και τοποθετήσεων που προσεγγίζουν πολιτικές σώματος και μνήμης, στερεοτυπικές -ή μη- απεικονίσεις συγγένειας και παιδιών, σε ένα κοινωνικό πλαίσιο που φαίνεται να επαναπροσδιορίζεται μέσω της «διαφορετικής» γονεϊκότητας; Πώς μπορούν αυτές οι συγγενείς και «συγγενικές» διατυπώσεις να συγκροτήσουν ένα καλλιτεχνικό πεδίο προς αναφορά, έμπνευση, μελέτη ή αρχειοθέτηση;
Οι συναντήσεις των γυναικόπαιδων, με τη συμμετοχή ομάδων, μονάδων, δυάδων, συγγενών, γονέων, όσων θέλουν ή δεν θέλουν να γίνουν γονείς και όσων τοποθετούνται αναφορικά, θα γίνουν 30/5 και 6/6 στο TWIXTlab.
